HOMEWARD CONNECTIONS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Within our Southern sector community, according to DISD standards, the status of homelessness has a count of over 4400 homeless children alone, excluding adults. According to both Census and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; in 2018 the number of homeless families increased to 9 percent since 2017. Between Dallas and Collin counties, there were 4,140 homeless individuals and families.
 
During this epidemic of homelessness within Dallas South region, providing basic needs have a essential role to the development of the next generation of functioning adults. Homeward Connection Mentorship Program is uniquely design for homeless & disadvantage high school students with the purpose to reduces the risks of homeless and poverty.
Through a individual strategic action plan which includes case management, financial education programs, life coach and career and job placement increase students chances to be sociable and economical empowered.

HPSSO Programs and Services

Homeward Connection Mentorship Program is designed to build life skills and educate students on how to make positive choices that foster healthy decisions and prosperous living. Through HPSSO Homeward Connections Mentorship Programs students began to master skills required for self-efficacy, social interactions ad financial empowerment.  Our 3-step process consist of:

 

Case Management

Intake – gathering detailed information regarding the client’s background (e.g. education accomplishments, employment, living status and immediate challenges). Social Engagement – client is aligned with a licensed social worker to perform assessments in the areas of psychological, behavioral, personality and job readiness. Hygienic Care Services

Provide high school students with basic needs of toiletries, haircuts, shoes, and clothing to eliminate signs of homeless or poverty from the outer appearance of students. We create a state of healthy living, learning and peer-to-interactions.

Teen Financial Empowerment Program

Expose minorities disadvantage & homeless students to the basic fundamentals of finance an how to leverage saving to build wealth. How to exercise Money Management through Goal Setting, Decision Making, Spending & Budgeting.

  • How to Borrow: Application Process, Loans, Credit Cards, Credit Scores Debt, Rights and Responsibilities, Earning Power, Earning Potential, and Career Path.
  • Why Invest:  Savings, Investing, Goals, Option Risks and Rewards, Time Value of Money, and Diversification Plan. 
  • Financial Services: Account Types, Fees, Service Options, Transaction Tracking, Automation, and Identity Protection.
  • Insurances: Risk Management Costs, Claims, Insurance Types, Coverage Decisions, and Insurability Factors.
